19. The Twins' Trial

Enemies: Tiny Toad, Puppet, Hell Needle, Gigantoad, Lunar Leviathan
Treasures: RingTwin Stars

If you’re wondering about the twin mages, you will need them both to take on their trial. If you have only one of the set, you will not be able to enter the door. This one is going to take a little bit of finesse as it requires both Palom and Porom going off in separate doors, yet still helping each other advance in their quest. Since the young’uns are by themselves, the battles will be minimally tough, but it still might be in your best interest to retreat. Fighting is the least of your worries through this cavern.

You’ll start off with Palom. Head to the right and hit the blue switch on the wall. The door on Porom’s side opens, and it’s here they realize they will have to work together. Press the L and R buttons to switch between the brother and sister mages. Switch over to Porom and press the blue switch to make Palom’s door open. Don’t switch back and advance Porom through the open door. You’ll notice a yellow square with a mini insignia on it. Bypass it for now and head over to the cracked tiles. Porom will come to the realization you must be floating to pass. Save your MP by not casting OFloat and just step on the blue square. Walk down the cracked steps and hit the blue switch on the wall. Walk back, then switch over to Palom.

When you walk through the door, you’ll see a frog look you down, then run through a small hole in the wall. Advance to the left and you’ll find a green step with a frog on it. Step on it and follow the toad into the hole. There’s a blue switch on the wall that you press before heading back to the hall. Step on the frog square again to revert to human form and move on. This hall has a pig square (which turns you into a pig, naturally). Hold off stepping on it for now, and switch back over to Porom.

The door on Porom’s side is now open. When you go through you, you’ll see a midget emerge from a hole in the wall. Head back into the room and step on the mini square to turn Porom into a midget. She’ll crawl through the hole with ease. Head to the right and step on the mini square to revert to normal, then hit the blue switch on the wall above you. Head back to the left and go up to the pink door. A pig bumps you out the way, signifying that these pink doors only admit pigs. Step on the pig square and head in. Step on the pig square inside the door to revert back to human. You’ll notice a midget hole in the wall to the left. Further left is a blue switch on the ground. Step on it, and you’ll find that something moved, helping out Palom. With no mini square visible, step on the pig square to get through the door. Then head to the right and step on the mini square. As both pig and midget, go back through the pig door. Step on the pig square to ditch the pig status and head through the midget hole. You’ll find a closed door. Now switch back over to Palom.

As Palom, first step on the pig square to become a pig, head up to the door Porom opened for you. There will be a mini square to step on to get through the midget hole in the wall. Do not return to normal by stepping on the mini square as you will need to remain a midget. Hit the blue switch on the wall. To the left and up there will be a pig door to go through. Step on the frog square as you get in, then the float square to get past the cracked floor. When you reach the end, you’ll see a toad hole to go through. Head to the left and step on the blue switch on the floor. Since you didn’t revert back to normal size by bypassing the mini square (you did, didn’t you?), you can pass into the midget hole and step on the green square. It’ll tell you nothing’s happening. Hop back over to Porom’s side now.

The door is open, so head inside. Step on the pig square to get through the pig door. Move through the hall and step on the float square to go over the cracked floor. When you come to the door at the bottom, head through to reach a cavern with a blue switch. Hit it, obviously. Then head through the door on the right. Become a toad to pass through two toad holes and step on the green switch. When both Palom and Porom step on the switch, it’ll open up the cavern to Cecil and the rest of the crew.

Walking up the hall, you’ll see an old man blocking the way. Talking to him, he’s obviously the keeper of the trial. Good luck with your next bout.

Well as if you couldn't tell, Lunar Levy is much like his Earthen counterpart. He'll open up with a pretty strong Tidal Wave and continually use it throughout the battle. Also in his arsenal is a decently damaging OBlizzaga. But the move you have to keep a close eye on is his use of Maelstrom, which will take everyone down to single digit HP. It'll be important to recover from this move very quickly as his next move after using this is usually Tidal Wave. So if you don't recover quickly, you'll find yourself on the Game Over screen. Now is a good time to bust out those Megalixirs you've undoubtedly been stockpiling since being in the Lunar Ruins. If that's not an option, use OCuraja like it's going out of style.

If you can avoid that fate, then this guy should go down. Pound away at him with your heavy hitters. Have Palom (and Rydia if she is also with you) wail away at the serpent with OThundaga as he is extremely weak against lightning. If you're up in level, you'll see it take 9999 a pop. A slew of those as well as some big time hits from Cecil and the heavy hitters and Lunar Leviathan will meet the same fate as regular Leviathan.

Upon its defeat, you will receive two of the RingTwin Stars, one for each Palom and Porom. As well as being their ultimate defender, the ring opens up for the ultimate magic. Try using Twin in battle when both have it equipped.
