I have always wondered what is the minimum number of characters that you need to beat Final Fantasy VI? From the, albeit little, research playing I have done, I think that you need at least 4 characters to beat Final Fantasy VI, simply because of how many times your party changes its members. I think the 4 are Terra/Edgar, Sabin/Shadow, Celes, and Locke. If anyone else has another combination that would work using the fewest number of characters, WITHOUT CHEATING, please tell me your thoughts and your progress in this crazy attempt

Well in the WOR
Possible spoilers: highlight to view the plot only forces you to acquire three characters. Celes, Edgar, and Setzer. You can finish the game with only those three. I don't know if this answers your question though. |

From when Celes wakes up, you only need she, Setzer, and Edgar. BUt if your'e talking start-to-finish, you'd need everyone except Mog, Umaro, and Gogo. You can sort of skate around the edge of Shadow, if you don't count that run from the boat to Thamasa.

She's also a character you can avoid using throughout all but 5 minutes of the game. I personally never use Relm, I just dont like her a whole lot. |

You do have to use Relm for a least part of a boss fight (vs. Ultros, of all people). But yeah, I guess you could reasonably ignore her almost all the way. I was thinking more, and here are your mandatory parties, ignoring bonus characters Wedge, Moogles, Bannon) and brief moments (Terra wandering around Figaro).
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Start -> Tritoch: Terra Moogles -> Figaro: Terra and Locke Figaro -> Mt. Kolts: Terra, Locke, and Edgar Mt. Kolts ->Returner Base: Terra, Locke, Edgar, and Sabin River -> Split: Terra, Edgar and Sabin Sabin's Quest -> Sabin, Cyan and Gau Terra's Quest -> Edgar and Terra Locke's Quest -> Celes and Locke Narshe Battle -> Any three characters Battle -> Zozo: Any character Zozo ->Imperial Factory: Locke and Celes Cranes: Locke and Setzer Sealed Gate: Terra Emperor's Banquet: Any character Thamasa: Locke, Terra, and Shadow Hidden Espers: Locke, Terra, Strago (and Relm) Floating Continent: Any Character End of FC: Celes WOR: Celes, Setzer, Edgar. Yes it look's right, though for Narshe battle you could put 'any previous seven characters' instead.
