Which team did you use on the Oeilvert mission? For me, I had Zidane, Freya, Steiner and Amarant, all with MP Attack and Counter. The problem is, I was left with a majorly weak team back in the Desert Palace (With one of the buggers not attacking at all).
So what combination did you find allowed you to get through both areas with ease? |

Party 1: Zidane, Steiner, Freya, ????
Party 2: Quina, Amarant, ????, ???? A party who knows what Ark brings to the table should be able to take care of Oeilvert no problem -- Clearheaded, some wind-null/absorption equips, and a good item healer with Chemist can really clean house (or Auto-Regen). The main thing is that every enemy in Desert Palace is susceptible to LV5 Death, and with Quina slinging those around, Chakra is a fountainhead of free MP. Knowing that, the player can pick up the slack by evening out the party or making 'em lopsided for extra support. But hey, everyone's better the second go-'round, aye? Lots of people kick themselves over bringing mages to Oeilvert (didn't read) or knowing that and leaving uberweak people behind (imbalanced). -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I take Dagger, Vivi, and Eiko when I want to give Zidane a hard time. XD Make the boy earn his keep.
On normal days I'll usually do Zidane, Freya, Dagger, and Steiner in Oeilvert. That leaves Quina, Amarant, Eiko, and Vivi for Desert Empress. And yes, I totally didn't pay attention to Kuja's warning the first time I played and took Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, and Steiner to Oeilvert. Dagger and Vivi made me want to throw things at the screen. *L* |

I brought Freya, Amarant, and Quina. I know full-well that Quina's bread and butter was ineffective, but I brought him/her along strictly for the Blue Magic abilities and to play the Frog Catching game, since Qu's Marsh is within walking distance of the Hilda Garde's landing site if I remember correctly.
Leaving Steiner with the mages adding a physical attacker to the group and an excuse to use Magic Sword. -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh? Not until I fulfill my dream!" Had Zidane, Steiner, Freya and Amarant in my party. Of course, this made Oelivert easy.
The Desert Palace was of course worse, but I took my time and leveled my party. After a while it went just fine ![]() -------------------- The end has no end. |

After a while it went just fine exactly the same here. as long as you take your time and level, neither of the locations will prove difficult, and why not get some of the leveling out of the way? -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I put Quina in the Oeilvert group and left Steiner in the Desert Palace group with the mages.
The problem with this arrangement is that the Palace becomes taxing quickly. Steiner is the only fighter in the group, his abilities leave a great deal to be desired, Vivi lacks powerful black spells, and Eiko basically can't cause damage. Than there is the worst part. Dagger is still in shock at this time in the story and many of her commands, even if they are item uses and not spells/summons, fail becuase she can't concentrate. I would recommend the Oeilvert party as Zidane, Steiner, Freya, and Dagger. At least than if her commands fail in the outskirts of Oeilvert, the powerful cast is there even things out. And since magic doesn't work in the place, her poor concetration makes little difference. Leaving Vivi, Eiko, Amarant and Quina in the Palace gives a great variety of spells and non-magic attacks (Amarant's throwing weapons, not to mention his non-phyisical damage attacks). And of course the Lv5 Death/Chakra combo. You can always get blue spells from the Oeilvert region later. I had the guide book with me, so I never got stuck with mages in Oeilvert the first time around. I put Quina there deliberatley. |

The first time i played it it was superduper hard cos my Desert Palace team was so weak, but this time it was okay because I went crazy training in disk 1 so i left vivi and quina behind at desert palace and they were like 60 and 50. eiko was 45 and dagger was 20 and that left me with zidane freyja amarant and steiner for Oilevert which turned out to be real easy since freyja was nearly 70.
