I had never realised that you could actually save Cid in FF6 untill I read through the walkthrough on this site. However after actually saving him and viewing the PS cinematics, it seems to me that letting him die is the better choice story wise. In the cinematic, you see Celes holding the bandana, as she does after attempting to kill herself. Also, Cid asks you to bring Locke to meet him when you find him, but if you do so he doesn't respond, just keeps walking around sayiny "thanks for saving me Celes". I just get the impression you really aren't supposed to save the guy.

![]() I have to admit, I like letting Cid die rather than saving him. The first time I played ffvi, I felt I HAD to save him (and I did succeed). After a few times around, it got annoying to be chasing after fishes and stuff, so I let him die. Lo, and behold, something cool happened. The dramatic scene of Celes attempting suicide seemed a lot more poignant. It added to the overall story (rather than detracting from it). Saving Cid on the other hand, just got you Cid saved. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." The first time I played FF6 I saved Cid just cause I thought you had too when I found out you can kill him I just don't feed him fish haha I am sinister. The reason I do it is cause I like the whole Celes suicide attempt. I believe that is one of the best and most emotional scenes in FF history.

My last time through the game I saved him, but I agree, it was a better story with Cid dying.

I usually save Cid.
I don't know why. I hate this Cid (I hate FF8's more though.) So I wonder sometimes...is it really right to save him? I mean the suicide attempt is nice, (storyline-wise, don't go down that pass yourself though) but...if you save Cid, you just leave him right after saving him. "Thanks Celes for you've done." "You're welcome, but now I'm gonna leave for months and never come back." Celes leaves. "Have fun...hey wait a minute..." -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. The first few times I played through, I didn't know he could be saved as well. I was thinkin to myself "What's the friggin' deal here? He wants fish, I'm givin him fish, and he goes ahead and dies on me. Ah well, must be no other way." It wasn't until I read some walkthrough that I figured out how to save him. It gets rather annoying sometimes, trying to get the right fish. I usually just let Cid die because the suicide scene is meant to be played out (IMO), and I don't care to get exactly the right fish. Just fits better.

i always end up saving him, i dont know why. its really just waste of time chasing the quick fish around to keep him alive, and it can take like 10 minutes, but i usually do it. i have to admit, the suicide attempt scene really does add to the story and shows celes' despair at its peak.

Cid deserves to die anyway. Who knows what he did to Celes that entire year she wasn't "all there".

I saved him because I always found it more difficult to do so. The fish I wanted always stayed in the corner, and it took forever for a good one to appear. I prefer a challenge.

No matter how hard I try, I always end up killing him. Although from what I've read, this is the best choice story wise (IMO, anyway). As a matter of fact, this is (once again, IMO), the saddest thing to happen in a FF game (her suicide attempt, not Cid's death). It drives me nuts when people tell me I'm wrong and that Aeris' death is sadder

I'm always torn between the saving and not saving thing. The thread pretty much sums up why already. At the back of my mind, I know he's meant to die; the plotline is more dramatic, it adds to the hopeless feeling at the beginning of the World of Ruin, and it really is a pain in the neck to do all that fishing for a character who doesn't actually do anything if he does live. You come aback and see him as he suggests (if I remember correctly), bring some friends, and he only ever says the same single damned line. If you were meant to solve the fish puzzle, there'd be bigger clues, I feel: certainly in Western FF releases, hints and help for critical puzzles seem to be scattered about liberally compared to this one. I think the ability to save him is just in there for the completist replaying it for the fiftieth time, who notices something different happens when they feed him different fish (and maybe something on the key item screen), and hey, they get something new out of the game. Strategy guides and the Internet ruin it, though.
I still feel bad and save him usually, though. Same sort of thing for Paul Denton in Deus Ex, on an off-topic (and off-forum) note. |

I usually save him, just because I feel really guilty if I don't. I feel like I drive Celes to suicide. However, sometimes when it gets tedious I just let him die. Then I feel bad afterwards.

I was able to save Cid without a walkthrough because I restarted when he died a few times. When I looked in the menu for the key items...or whatever it is they call them in this game, I realized that the faster fish are much better for him. However, the task of finding these fish can be incredibly tedious and for my next play-through he's going to die a terrible death. I may even expedite it by feeding him all rotten fish..call me evil! heh heh heh

Cid has to live in order for you to get of that solitary island because he was in middle of building a ship before you enter and take him to bed. though it could take some time.

The issue of whether you get the raft if Cid lives or dies is irrelevant. Â If he lives, you get the raft. Â If he dies, you still get the raft. I say just let him die. Saving him really isn't worth all the trouble you have to go through to do it (Unless of course you have Celes at a really low level-like 12 or less- then he'll join your party for a short time).
I've never actually tried it, I just read it in a FAQ on another site. Thanx for the heads up. -------------------- "Son of a submariner" Â Â Â Â Â -Kefka |

In your dreams, yes, but not in the game. He doesn't even have sufficent sprites. I could prove this wrong just by linking to the low level FAQs, since if it were true, Cid would be in those. -------------------- |

Dying was much better, but I always saved him cuz I felt bad. Actually, when I first went through the game, I saved him because I was expecting a scene with Locke meeting Cid later on. Looks like it didn't happen.

The first time I played he died cause I didn't know you could save him. Heheh. Then I read this walkthrough and it said feeding him a certain fish would heal him and feeding him the OTHER kind of fish would kill him.

I agree killing him is much cooler. Â I actually save him once and what did it get me. Nothin besides being almost banned from this site, and wasting like an hour of my life to do it. Â The cinematic for killing him is much cooler and dose not waste your life, nor has it ever almost gotten me banned from a great site.
