My buddy and I are playing through FFVIII and for the second play through we want to use a guide, preferably one that's on par with the CoN guides (which we've used before). Any recommendations?

Glancing at a FAQ page for FF VIII has me noticing that A l e x has a guides up. That guy writes very good walkthroughs.

Seconded. A l e x's guides are pretty good.
On a side note, I would expect CoN to do an FFIX guide before an FFVIII guide. |

The Official Walkthrough of this game was pretty good as well. Unlike FF7's official walkthrough that lacked some enemy skills, enemies and good strategies...

I'm a little bit late, but in case it still matters, I do also recommend A l e x's guides for just about anything he's written them for. And the official guide was great for me: plus it's real cheap on ebay. I think I got my game and guide together for $20. That's almost as good as my free guide w/ $12 FFX.

Thanks to everyone who replied... Since it'll probably be a bit of a pain to get a hold of the official guide, A l e x's guide it is.

Split Infinity's is probably a better choice, actually.

Split Infinity does good work too. It's a personal preference.

I'm just playing Final Fantasy VIII with Split Infinity's walkthrough and yes, it's very complete. But he fails to mention to not mix card rules. Or do it very carefully.

Or do it very carefully. That's probably because there are a lot of players, especially me, who enjoy building a stack of foreign rules to play by. I find the default rules a bit boring, and the games can be won with a deck of weak cards if you have Plus, which is usually quite enjoyable. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Sure, it can be a nice challengue, but if you are collecting character/GF cards, specially on the Card Queen quest, then it makes you depend entirely on luck. One thing I did is to abolish Random in Dollet and Trabia. And yes, the Same, Plus and Elemental rules are quite tolerable. Not so much when they are together... Same & Plus rules together is hell for me. ![]() -------------------- Yep, I'm here. |

Either that or Card Mod all your weak cards when you get them. I understand that you sometimes need a few of one type to refine them, but overall you should have a fairly good hand for each game. About the Same, Plus and Elemental, I must admit I love them all together! Like I said, it's fun to win with a really poor hand. Does anyone know a good card guide or FAQ? Last time I played I had to get my info from a few sources and it was difficult to alternate between them. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Last time I played I had to get my info from a few sources and it was difficult to alternate between them. Well, I refuse to card mod every card I have. I sometimes get useful items from there, like the Screws which I have to refine very often because I like to use Irvine's limit break. ![]() Either way, here's a good Card Game guide: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197343/10404 I still hate the challengues and try to abolish [Random] & [Sudden Death] from most regions. I also don't like having [Same/Same Wall] & [Plus] rules together, so, most of the time I strive to just have the [Open] rule allowed. The [Elemental] Rule isn't a big deal and the [Same] (with or without [Same Wall]) and [Plus] are OK as long as they aren't together. ![]() Of course, this means that whenever I play on the Lunar Place then I have hell for me. Since I have to play with all the rules but can abolish one, so I just make sure to abolish [Random] and try to get the Alexander and Laguna Card with the rest of the rules. And yes, this also means that I never challenge the god-damned Card Queen on Disc 4. There's no need to, anyway. With the CCGroup on the Ragnarok, every Card is available. Except for the PuPu Card.
