I think I might be going over old ground here but what the hell...

By using the FFVI editor you can get Gogo as early as Figaro Castle in WoB.
All you have to do is swap one of the field monsters for the Zone Eater and get
'Engulfed' as normal. Hey presto, you will now be in Gogo's lair!

When you meet Gogo, use the Warp spell or a Warp Stone to escape and you will back in the WoB!

Also, do not use the light at the begining of the cave as you will come out on the
Triangle Island in WoR and will not be able to escape! (no Airship see....).

Im not too sure if this will crash the game later on, as I have not really played the game since.

I am also 99% sure someone has discovered this before me and will close the topic if needed.

I did, but I did not get any repsonse to it. I'm just curious to see if anyone else has discovered this (more than likely though).

That's interesting. I'll try it out if I have time...

But I assume you'll have to beware the monsters, since won't they still be the same WoR monsters?

That's an interesting loophole, although it wouldn't surprize me if it locked up the game at some point (more on this later). I imagine the monsters would be the same inside the cave, but you can probably run from every battle. You would just have to revive a party member or two after each encounter. Isn't that right Dirk Diggler? What level is Gogo at when you get him? Is that dependant on your other characters' levels?

If you get Gogo as early as Figaro castle, I'm sure that would cause problems at times when you're supposed to have 4 characters (like when getting Sabin), along with the 3 scenarios, talking to Ramuh in Zozo (especially with Gogo alone) and any other event involving all characters. You could probably do the esper cave and the floating continent with Gogo but that's about it.

I must admit that I also created super-items which I equipped Locke and Terra with. These made them pretty much invincible. I also changed all the monsters in the area around Figaro/Narshe so I levelled up really quickly (I got to level 52 on both charatcers in about 2 hours play!). So tackling Gogo's lair was a bit too easy.

I got Gogo on pretty much the same level as Locke and Terra and he can only mimic the abillities that they have. I haven't really played it since so I do not know how far you can get with him, I am assuming that there is no way he will survive much beyond Mt Kolts as the party will be maxed at 4 when you get Edgar and you need to pick up Sabin as you said 90east.

I'll keep you posted as to what happens and how far I get with him.

You will, unless you edit the monsters, too.

pinch.gif DOH! It actually crashes when you meet Edgar for the first time, I've just tried it, and before anyone could say anything it just froze.

It was kinda weird as Edgar looked as if he was just staring at Gogo and wondering just who the hell he was!

ah well, it was fun while it lasted!

Now, heres a thought I had, and feel free to tell me if it is incredibly stupid:

Even though the game locks up at Figarao, would it be possible to edit some Narshe monsters to ZoneEaters and get swallowed while you still have Biggs and Wedge in the MagiTek armor? Sure, it wouldn't last long, but it would be interesting to see Gogo mimic some MagiTek attacks.

I know nothing about editors so I don't know if it would work or not, but it might be a neat experiment for some intrepid soul.

Ive just tried to do as you suggested Raging, but when engulfed by Zone Eater,
it just spews you back to the start of the mines. The worm obviously can't digest magitek!

It might crash around Figaro and the likes, but after you get the Blackjack, and thus are allowed a lot of freedom party-wise, you might be able to get it to work.

i suspect it would crash when you get sabin, as your party only has room for 4 members.

Gogo's stats are still the same, right?

The thing about Gogo that sucks is that he can't use Espers, so he can't upgrade his stats. I'd imagine that there's a way around that using a Game Genie/Shark/hex editor of course, but it's not the same.

He actually joins straight away. Just use Warp or a Warp Stone to leave his cave and he will then be in your party!

Im not too sure what happens if you get him when you have the Blackjack.

Maybe this is a challenge for someone to try. I would do it myself but I currently have only just entered South Figaro.

My only question is.....what would happen once you go tto the World of Ruin? You've already gotten Gogo at that point, so he won't be there again....would he be gone for good?

I've got to be honest, the ammount of questions and posibilities this 'bug' raises are almost infinite.

I am assuming that if you have Gogo in any of the 'cut' scenes in the game before you are supposed to get him, it will crash as the game has not programmed him into any of it.

It will take a brave soul to sacrifice a save file just to see if Gogo survives each cut scene and how far you can get with him.

You can probably use an emulator's save state feature to test these out. To have hacked into the game to get Gogo in the first place, I would assume that you've got an emulator anyways, so...

But shouldn't you be able to play up to a certain point with Gogo and even if you freeze the game be able to load state and experiment around with it?

Your right you know Glenn....

Thinking about it, you can just use trial and error and see how far you can get with him.

Its just a matter of not saving once you have Gogo and taking him through each scenario one by one. This way when it does crash, you can just go back to your last savestate before you got Gogo.

The only problems with this I can see is the ammount of time you will need to spend messing around trying to change the area monsters to Zone Eater each time you come to a new part of the game. You can also never save it with Gogo in your party as it may crash at any time and a save file will be ruined!

I am going to take this project under my wing and see how far you can get with him in WOB. Hopefully finding out if and when he can be had in the party crash free, and if it really is worth all the bother!
