I want to know, who do you think was the love interest of Final Fantasy Tactics? I think it was Ovelia, but a lot of people might think it's Agrias. Heck, you guys may think of some other female character! So, come on everybody! Who's the romance?

I personally would have thought it to be Ovelia, but since Delita took her. I guess Ramza has to go after another fish in the sea.

I can't even begin to see how Agrias may've been a love interest; the only shred of caring she exhibits is for the princess' safety and her honor as a knight. Short of the scene where she joins, Ramza shows her absolutely no feelings whatsoever, and even then, it's worry for a friend.

Ovelia was barely developped, emotionally. All's we got was "I hate my role in life," Delita comforting her, and then an end many agree exhibits her dislike of him. Ramza and Ovelia? Ha; Ramza and Rafa have more touching scenes!

The only characters who even remotely seem close are related: Ramza and his sister, Rafa and Malak, Delita and Teta...

A love interest? In FFT? The storyline wasn't like that.

Its definately her, though FFT was a war story, not a romance.

I think Agrias is a little too old for Ramza...

I always heard Agrias was orginally supposed to be with Ramza, but funk that. I say Meliadoul. If not her, then Rafa. (A friend of mine is dead-convinced the latter pairing should, and perhaps did, happen)

EDIT: By the way, there are two main love interests in FFT. Delita/Ovelia (which, though it ends, ah, badly, is nevertheless genuine when it's unfolding) and Beowulf/Reis, which is sweet, I guess. Mainly FFT has to do with the love of siblings (not in THAT way!), which I say is a refreshing departure.

Hey, I never said that!! I simply assumed that Ramza was in love in Ovelia and that people may have had differing opinions. I never said that every RPG has to have a love interest. Heck, as far as I can tell, Fire Emblem is completely devoid of a love story. It is simply my opinion that Ramza as in love with Ovelia. But who knows maybe when I (finally) finish the game I'll prove myself wrong.

Oh, gotcha. Well, I won't spoil things dealing with character relationships then, and just mention my opinion.

Personally, were the game one with an obvious and in-depth love story, and if it had to revolve around Ramza, I'd say Rafa would have the best shot at some developement. Right from the get-go she places quite a lot of faith in Ramza and always seems to rely on him. While a sexist big-strong-guy-protecting-vulnerable-girl relationship, it could easily be developped.

Agrias' involvement with Ramza sounds like another good option. Their goals are very similare. For that reason, though, I'm a little uneasy with the idea. It's more like they'd make good friends, even war buddies, than lovers.

Can't say I've ever heard anything about hidden removed scenes in the japanese version though... any info would be welcomed. smile.gif

I think Agrias would have been perfect for Ramza. After the fight at the execution site, she had no more development but it is there that I think she and Ramza could have become an item. The reason is when she finds out he is a Beoulve she says "I trust you". That to me was a sign that something was developing and kinda the reason I always kept her in the party and used her in battles.

I think that FF Tactics was a better game because they didn't put in any such love story. Inserting something like that in to the plot would seem REALLY forced, and a single scene with Agrias from the Japanese version seems exceedingly random when Agrias does not have any plot scenes throughout chapters 3 and 4 (she is, after all, and optional character in your party). Adding more scenes for a developing love interest between Ramza and Agrias/Ovelia/Meliadoul/Rafa/Balmafula/whoever would not have made Tactics a better game; instead we have to tolerate fantasies and conjectures in [usually] poorly-written fan fiction.

The plot maintained its seriousness by leaving relationship matters out, and for that I'm glad. The tone of the story is at a comfortable and intriguing level, and it would only be lessened by inserted love themes. After all, when a war's taking place in the country, what soldier has time to cultivate love?

But, in the very slight chance that Ramza may have had feelings for someone, I'd go with Agrias as well. They could grow closer on the sameness of goals and aspirations. One scene wouldn't establish true love for me (and I'm sure others as well), so I'd rather have no love scene than a rushed, choppy one.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Personally, I don't feel Delita really loved Ovelia, or vice-versa. Delita used her, plain and simple - a means to his end. it was a cruel, ironic twist of fate, you see. All the time, it was the nobles who used the commoners, then Delita manipulates all the chains of nobles to get himself into a position of nobility, and even royalty, by using Ovelia. Poor Delita wasn't the same, cool and respectable character that he was after Teta's death. And Ovelia? She found comfort and safety in him: he made her believe she was what she was, to a point, that she was more than a tool. However, as I said, she really just was. Pity poor Ovelia... Between her and Delita, there is something truly tragic in the FFT tale.

As for Ramza, I think I'd have to go with the idea that there were no present interestes. As Silverlance said, they'd probably end up as war buddies more than lovers. I can see them having some sort of fling at best, but no full on romance - let's face it, they're both far too independant and focused on their own personal matters: Ramza wants the truth, Agrias wants Ovelia's safety. No... If there is any romance for Ramza, it occurs after the story ends, in my humble opinion.

Although, I did enjoy the suggestion that it would make for a very interesting romance with Melidoul. Sadly, that really didn't have time to occur, nor could it have because, well, she hated him simply through his name.

I say the game is good enough without a love story.
But if it where my choice i'd go with agrias. "see's awesome!"

Actually, that's not true. Without spoiling anything in the plot, I will just say one thing: Read the supports. You may be surprised who end up with who.... shifty.gif

Back on topic: I am a firm believer that, like Silverlance and Shinjutsei said, FFT was not meant to be a romance story, and as such, did not give Ramza a love interest. The thing that really convinces me of this is the fact that Ramza is on the run from just about everyone for most of the game. He doesn't have time to have a romantic relationship with anyone. That's just my oppinion, though, and I may be totally off, but that's just what I think.

See, I believe the exact opposite. I'm thinking the part where

Ramza asks him how he feels about Ovelia, and he says, "I don't know... but I would give my life for her," while Ovelia in the first scene at Zeltennia Church just seems to be desperate for some kind of solace and support, which Delita represents for her. Mind, I think theirs was a codependent relationship at best -- he actually loving her but still aware of the potential of using her title, and she unsure of how she feels but unwilling to be swept along by the tide any longer.

In any case, I believe for a little while, it was love. Also that Delita isn't as much of a bad guy at all as I seem to remember, after playing through Tactics 10 or so times and finally understanding the translation. tongue.gif

Agrias was the love interest of Ramza in the Jap version. I'd assume that they took out the scene on Barius Hill because it...was a distraction to the game. Again, its a story of war, betrayal, and faith, not love (unless you think about Ovelia and Delita).
Yes, although it WAS just ONE scene (in reference to Ramza and Agrias), it still was the only one of its kind, thus hinting it had to be significant somehow.

there was no such extra scene in the japanese version, and before you try to argue, i know because i in fact own and have played the japanese version. you just heard some rumour on some site, and it's baseless. there was no love interest in either the japanese or the na version of the game. eod.

First of all, I will gladly beat anyone who thinks Ramza and his sister got it on. With a seed drill.

There was no love interest. There doesn't have to be.
It also makes a kind of sense if you look at the nature of the story. The FFs with stories centering around the characters (FFIV, FFVI+) had some sort of romance going on. The FFs centering around events (FFI-III, FFV, FFT) did not.

I am very glad there was no romantic angle to the plot. As has been said, there never has to be romance (unless its that kind of story), and all too often, I find a movie, comic, or game ruined because of a needless inclusion of romance.

As far as love goes, I would say only the sibling relationshuips were ever touched on. Alma + Ramza and Rafa + Malak are the only real "couples" in the game. That doesn't mean they have any sexual interest in each other, its just they are the only pairs that actually seem truly close. Though I would not oppose enjoying a well-written story (and there have been a few), that says otherwise. cool.gif

Okay, corrected, Reis and Beowulf are indeed a legit couple. But they're already together, so there's no developing romantic plot, and they have so few lines (only one real scene together as a couple), that its easy to overlook.

I voted for Agrias. However, I think Rafa and Meliadoul are also top contenders for Ramza's love affection.

Rafa: Ramza felt so much emotion for Rafa as much as he did for Alma based on the events that unfold from the time you first meet her.

Meliadoul: Her quote when pressing "Select" on her name in the status screen may or may not indicate that she is in love with him.
