29. King Guardia's Trial

Enemies: See here
Treasures: HyperEther x2, Elixir x2, Lapis x2

Head to Guardia Castle in 1000 A.D. so you can hopefully use the Rainbow Shell to get some good equipment and armor. However, when you enter, most of the exits will be sealed because King Guardia is on trial for selling royal treasures. Hopefully it's not the Rainbow Shell! Head for the courtroom by going to the right upon entry of the castle and up the stairs. If you have Marle in your party, she'll scream at the guards to get in.

The Chancellor is trying to frame the King for selling the Rainbow Shell and is doing a good job at it. You all decide to go to the basement and see the Rainbow Shell and hopefully bring back proof that it's there.

The enemies here are all really old ones that you've already fought from the Cathedral. Most of the action is done by the computer, but you fight the fights and grab the chests. Open the ones after the second fight for a HyperEther, Elixir, and Lapis. Move on and find the same items in the chests right before the Rainbow Shell. You'll break off a shard and find a letter from Leene. Hurry back to the trial, but they won't let you in. Marle will blast through the stained glass window and reveal the Chancellor as a traitor. He'll transform, just as the old Chancellor did, and you'll fight a boss.

Strategy
Bring along Crono because of his speed and his power, and then Frog and Marle due to the great Double Cure dual technique. Yakra is not a very good fighter but he can do a lot of damage with his needle attack, so you'll probably need the healing. Keep attacking him with Leap Slash and Confuse or OLuminaire and he'll go down pretty fast.

Afterwards, Marle and the King will finally make up, and Melchior will arrive, saying he can make some stuff with the Rainbow Shell. Follow him down to the basement, where you'll finally get Crono's best weapon, the BladeRainbow sword that has a 70% critical attack rate. You'll also get a choice between 3 HelmetPrism Helms or 1 ArmorPrismDress. Choose whichever you like. Finally, you'll get some PrismSpecs, which "raise attack power to the max." Alright!

The little glimmer that Yakra XIII left behind is the Yakra Key, which allows you to open the locked chest, if you like. Inside is the real Chancellor.
